Sample Fundraising Letter for Family Walk Teams

Please check out the following family team fundraising letter from last year’s Greater Louisville Walk to Cure Diabetes. This can give new and returning teams a template to use when writing this year’s letters.

As I’ve said before, each year it is a bit more difficult to share our daily journey with diabetes.  I don’t want diabetes to define her – we rarely think of her as “sick”, but diabetes is part of her story. Thank you for allowing me a few minutes of your time to update you on how Rebecca has grown with diabetes this past year and how you can help her cause.

Rebecca turns 6 this month and is starting kindergarten.  While she is excited, this is a cause of anxiety for Mom.  This is our first major change in her daily care since her diagnosis.  She has spent the past four years under the caring and nurturing guidance of her preschool, TLC Ministries.  This spring and summer I started working with the elementary school and our doctor for Rebecca’s needs and expectations regarding her daily care in a public school setting.  Last November, Rebecca started wearing an insulin pump to manage her insulin intake and to be familiar with this routine before starting elementary school.  Every three days we prepare an insulin pod with her medication and place it on her abdomen – switching sides each time to hopefully decrease the chance of scar tissue build-up (as a needle is placed just under her skin to deliver her insulin when we “activate” the insulin pod).  This takes the place of multiple daily shots but her finger is pricked a minimum of 6 times daily to know her blood glucose levels at meals and other necessary times.  She has amazed us with her skills at learning the technology side of her insulin pump – she can input her carbohydrate information, change her basil settings and tell it to deactivate her pod when it’s time to change (many of you may have no idea what we just told you!).  Again, this is where she has to be much older than her young age of six.

Your generosity and support of Team Rebecca has raised $40,000 in the past three years for JDRF – with 87% of that going towards research to find a cure.  Thank you so much for what you give to our family.  While times continue to be difficult for many, we are humbled and thankful for the continued support of Team Rebecca.  I’ve enclosed a pre-addressed envelope that you can use to send us a tax-deductible donation in any amount possible, payable to JDRF.   For online donations, visit www.jdrf.org  and click on donate under Walk Central.  Then you would enter Rebecca Moody (or any member of our family) to donate to her walk team.  As a bonus, see if your company offers a matching program and if JDRF is an eligible recipient.  All donations are appreciated!

We love having so many of you walk with us for JDRF.  If you would like to come and walk to celebrate Rebecca and her amazing spirit, we would love to have you be a part of TEAM REBECCA on Saturday, September 11.  If interested in walking with us, please register online at www.jdrf.org (call or email me if you have any questions).  I am again serving as the Walk Chair for the Greater Louisville and Southern IN Walk, and I am honored to have so many join us at Churchill Downs.  We have a new shirt design this year, so if you would like to purchase a Team Rebecca shirt, please contact me for your order – or wear our original design with love!

Thank you for your prayers, thoughts, support, and everything you give to Rebecca, our family and JDRF.
